Binding e sostituzione sensoriale nell'informazione tattile e uditiva

Abstract : The focuses of my thesis work are: a) the analysis of the audio-tactile binding problems (experiments on the linguistic domain) (chpt.1), b) the analysis and investigation of the audio-tactile temporal binding window (experiments with non-predictable unisensorial and multisensorial audio-tactile streams) (chpt.2), c) the sensory substitution theory (specifically the possibility to vehiculate auditory linguistic information through a tactile sensory substitution device) (chpt.3). The aim of the work was to find a sensory substitution device (tactile stimulation) that can effectively help hearing-impaired people to better understand speech. The results did not confirm the influence of the tactile stimulation on the auditory perception and did not show evidence for audio-tactile binding. In the discussion I analysed the methodological limits (stimuli, procedure) and the limits in the current knowledge that are crucial for the aims of this work (e.g. not sufficient knowledge on auditory perception of speech, time plasticity and duration of training, training procedures).
