L’étranger russe au prisme de l’Université : la langue russe dans l’enseignement supérieur en France, du lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale à la fin des années 1970

Abstract : This article deals with the polarity of representations of foreign Russia and USSR in French universities during three decades following the end of the Second World War. This time was known in France as the peak of Russian studies, in term of numbers of students and teachers. However, just after the Second World War, teachers were either Russian immigrants who had fled the Revolution, or French who had learnt Russian far from the USSR. These teachers looked more towards the Russian empire as the cultural realm of Russian language, than towards the USSR. When contacts were established between the two countries after Stalin’s death in 1953, two pretenders coexisted for this role of cultural realm of Russian language: the fallen empire and the USSR.
