Parents en deuil : maternités et paternités face à la perte d’un enfant

Abstract : How is it possible to keep thinking parenthood when a child passes away? Through the analysis of biographical interviews with bereaved mothers and fathers, I will explain the transformation of parenthood in this situation. The example of the professional sphere shows that fathers and mothers do not have the same resources to deal with bereavement. They are confronted to a normative indeterminacy, which is nurtured by the opposition between motherhood and fatherhood. However, bereaved mothers and fathers still have to deal with the same difficulty: the presence of siblings of the deceased child.
