L’islamophobie à l’épreuve du terrain

Abstract : This article reflects on the notion of Islamophobia from a fieldwork conducted in the Paris district of La Goutte d’Or. The data collected in the field allow to understand discourses conveying a set of negative and stereotyped representations of Islam and Muslims. These representations are partly tributary of Islamophobia, understood as a “social phenomenon” that takes on several dimensions. Nevertheless, the article shows that these representations are also closely linked to their most immediate context: the urban transformation underway in the neighborhood studied.
