Noms d’agents et noms d’instruments : le cas des déverbaux en -eur

Abstract : On the basis of deverbal nouns suffixed with-eur, this paper aims at comparing the agent and instrument nominal types. Both types convey an ontological specification (animates vs. artifacts) and a functional dimension corresponding to the underlying verbal predication stemming from the morphological basis. However, we demonstrate that these two nominal types combine in different ways the ontological and functional dimensions. We conclude that the ontological specification defines the scope of the functional dimension for each nominal type.
