Les étudiant·e·s sont-ils en sécurité ? Les enquêtes de victimation comme outil de la connaissance du monde étudiant

Abstract : This article seeks to show, in a step-by-step approach, the merits of using victimization surveys for a knowledge of the student “world” in France. How is it relevant to study student insecurity and victimization? And what kind of knowledge can we provide? These are the questions that we are trying to answer. Based on recent changes in the number of university students and in view of the security issues raised by contemporary changes, we propose to look again at victimization surveys as an instrument for measuring delinquency and incivility. We note that the French scientific literature finally provides little information on the reality of students regarding security issues. On this basis, we seek to demonstrate that Anglo-Saxon surveys can be a support and thus be transposed to national campuses. At a time when discussions on campus security tend to conclude that their imperviousness to their immediate environment is a miracle solution, it seems useful to acquire tools that measure delinquency, incivilities and fears of their users in order to better understand, better protect and better act. The scheduled end of the “Cadre de vie et Sécurité (CVS)” [Living Environment and Safety] survey is an additional justification for rethinking the tool and the fields in which it could be applied.
