La map task comme support de production orale : retour d’expérience

Abstract : We offer feedback on an oral production activity in pairs in English classes: the map task. First, we set out the principles of this task. This is a protocol that is quite widely used in research but which, to our knowledge, has not been exploited at the pedagogical level. We show the interest of using such a task in the English classroom, what pedagogical objectives can be achieved and what the requirements in phonetics/phonology are. We show the advantages of the method, but we also focus on the limits of the activity. Finally, we propose some ways of improving the task according to the target audience and the objectives to be reached. It is often difficult for the language teacher to create interactive situations involving authentic exchange. In our opinion, using the map task is a very good way to address this issue in language classes at all levels of secondary school.
